"CELT" TEFL Courses

Gain an accredited & recognised qualification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language

The CELT (Certificate of English Language Teaching) is one of the courses regarded as essential for gaining employment in reputable institutions in Ireland and the UK, and worldwide. Upon successful completion of the course, you will understand teaching methodology, how to prepare a class, how to deliver a class and you will have had several opportunities to teach real students (whilst being observed with feedback provided).
The aim of the CELT course is to produce a proficient EFL teacher who can assess and address the needs of a particular classroom situation, utilising suitable materials, and evaluating their effectiveness.
The CELT course comprises 120 hours of tuition and practice over a 5 week period, exclusive of time required for completion of projects and assignments.

COURSE AIMS

COURSE FORMAT
The course is held in Foyle Language School (One World Centre, 7 - 15 Foyle Street, Derry) on a full time basis.
Classes run from Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm for the 5 weeks.

COURSE FEES
The course fees are £1000 (inclusive of £100 non-refundable booking deposit). Course fees include all course materials and examination.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
All participants must have a First Degree (any grade) and GCSE English or equivalent at grade C or above.
Non-native speakers MUST have the Cambridge Proficiency Exam, Level C2 of the CEF or IELTS at 7.0.
Copies of all qualifications should be submitted with the application form but be advised that ALL ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS will be required at the interview stage.
Please note that any documents which are not in English must be translated by a certified translation service.

ATTENDANCE
• 100% attendance for face-to-face programmed hours*.
• 100% attendance for teaching practice and observations*.
• Maximum enrolment 12 students, minimum enrolment 8 students.
*Due to the intensive nature of the course it is imperative that all applicants attend the maximum number of sessions, both face-to-face and observation. In the case of unforeseen circumstances, issues should be taken up with the Director of Studies.

CERTIFICATION & GRADING
The CELT certificate will be awarded by ACELS following a satisfactory performance by the candidate in the assessment process outlined on the next page. The grades awarded are Pass or Pass with Distinction. All parts of this assessment are subject to external moderation by ACELS moderators, who operate independently of the individual training centres. ACELS certificates and diplomas are recognised by the Department of Education in Ireland. The British Council recognises the CELT as the minimum qualification for teaching in an accredited school and the teacher is regarded as ‘TEFL Initiated’.

PROCEDURE FOR BOOKING A COURSE
• Applicants should fill in the application form, enclosing copies of all appropriate documents and £100 deposit (non-refundable unless no offer of a place is made)
• Suitable applicants will be invited for an interview and given a pre-interview task which must be completed and brought to the interview. Any applicant arriving for an interview without this will be sent away.
