CELT TEFL Course - October 2009
Are you sick of the Irish climate? Gaining a recognised TEFL course can allow you to teach and travel abroad.
Teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) is big business and it is an opportunity that you can avail of with a TEFL qualification from Foyle
Language School. For 20 years FLS have been at the forefront of TEFL teaching in Ireland. The ACELS approved syllabus has been tried and tested, with more than 1500 successful participants over the past two decades, many of whom are now working full time in the TEFL industry.
It is estimated that the TEFL industry around the world is worth in excess of £6 billion a year, and growing. English is the language of international communication, and is a business increasingly looking to expand their operations on a global scale, so demand has increased for people who can teach them the necessary language skills that get them noticed.
An accredited TEFL course offers a gateway to a flexible, challenging and rewarding career around the world. The Foyle Language School has trained students who are now teaching English throughout Europe, Japan, Indonesia, The Middle East, South America, and currently, there is a particular demand for TEFL teachers in the Far East.
The course includes assistance in finding jobs abroad. Through the school’s international network there are many opportunities for teaching abroad. Caoimhe Fox a past student says “I really enjoyed the TEFL course as I had the chance to teach different nationalities. The course was intensive but it gave me the confidence and correct tools to be able to teach effectively. After completing the course, I found a teaching position immediately in China for 10 months. Having taught Chinese students in Foyle Language I was ready for the challenge. It was the most unusual and best experience of my life. I would recommend it to anyone.”
English language teaching is also a profession that offers a variety of personal rewards, including the opportunity to travel and experience different cultures, increased self-confidence and the ability to deal with responsibilities, and of course a greater appreciation of the quality and worth of your native tongue! It is not necessary to have knowledge of any other language (although a bonus) as all TEFL teaching is done through the medium of English.
